TTS Employees Give to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree
(December 14, 2007 - Dallas) Most people look forward to receiving gifts over
the holidays; however, many local children are not so fortunate. That’s why for
the second year, employees of Total Transportation Services generously donated
gifts to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program. The effort is part of their
Responsible Corporate Citizenship (RCC) Program, which is an ongoing company
initiative designed to support others within the community.
"Thanks to our employees, we were able to fulfill all the needs and wishes (and
then some) for three families with ten Angels" said Peggy Garrett, the RCC
Committee Leader. "Our employees shopped for Angels as young as four months old
and as old as ten years old, eight boys and two girls. We purchased items such
as diapers, clothing, lots of toys, sports games, a CD stereo, a doll house,
and a riding toy. Our employees also donated $260 to provide food vouchers for
our three families so they may have a nice meal for the holidays."
The Angel Tree program is one of the highest profile Christmas efforts by
Salvation Army, along with their Red Kettles. Angel Tree was created by in 1979
at a Virginia mall to provide clothing and toys for children at Christmas time.
Within a few years, excitement began to build in Dallas about this new method
of helping poor and indigent families during the Christmas season and was
officially established in Dallas in 1984.
In 2006, the Salvation Army distributed almost 303,000 gifts to over 16,300
families with approximately 41,500 children within the DFW Metroplex alone.
Total Transportation Services and their employees are proud to be among the
many donors to help with their success last year as well as this year - and,
will continue to do so in the years to come.
