TTS Races for the Cure

(June 25, 2008 - Dallas) For the third year, Total Transportation Services participated in the Susan G. Komen North Texas Race for the Cure on June 7, 2008. The Komen Race for the Cure is an organization our Responsible Corporate Citizenship (RCC) has chosen to support as one of our charitable causes.

Employees Mary Ann Gundersen and Devon Wood spearheaded the event for Total Transportation by recruiting walkers and requesting pledges. A group of nine employees and family members participated in the Race by walking 3.10 miles (5K) with the name Team Total. We were a small group among thousands who participated. In fact, the North Texas Race had 10,608 participants with 293 teams. Please see the Team Picture below as well as group shots of the event.

Middle Row: Crystal Messersmith, Mary Ann Gundersen, Bishop Gundersen, Kerra Stokes

In addition to Team Total walking in the Race, we also raised funds for the pledges. Total Transportation involved employees by having a Pizza Day and Jeans Week. Pizza was provided for employees to purchase at $1.00 per slice. The opportunity to wear jeans and tenee shoes all week was also offered at a cost of $5 per person. These two activities raised $426. In addition to other pledges, we raised a total of $800 for the Komen North Texas Affiliate.

The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs and fitness walks in the world. In 1983, the first Race for the Cure was in Dallas, Texas, with 800 walkers/runners. This year in 2008, Susan G. Komen for the Cure celebrates their 25th anniversary with over 1 million participants since 2005. The Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease -- and, Total Transportation Services is proud to support the cause.
