(July 22, 2009 - Dallas) Total Transportation Services LLC has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a SmartWaySM Transport Partner. This program is an innovative collaboration between U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry to increase energy efficiency by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption associated with ground transportation.
TTS will contribute to the SmartWay Partnership’s goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of its total operation. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog. By being part of the SmartWay Transport Partnership, TTS demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.

Logistics companies join the SmartWay Transport Partnership to show that they are committed to promoting greater energy efficiency and air quality within the freight transport sector. By encouraging carriers and customers to participate in the SmartWay Transport Partnership, members help them get necessary information and tools needed to reduce fuel consumption, save money, and make a positive impact on the environment.
Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations to pursue mutually beneficial efficiencies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies.
